About the Artwork

Five Long-Eared Guests and One Tall Flute

The dachshunds and champagne print gathers its dogs around a glass much taller than they are. One reaches the rim, two stand up along the sides and another stretches across the front. A smaller dog near the stem helps fill the space beneath the pale gold bowl.

Artwork and design

The long bodies, dark coats and russet markings make a loose ring around the nearly transparent glass. The background is light enough to show fine white highlights and the narrow foot. Sprigs of holly and red berries give the broad lower edge a few bright touches.

About this design

The joke depends on the dogs’ different poses. Some look up toward the rim, while the dog at the front carries the viewer back down to the tabletop. The holly adds a seasonal note and helps the whole group read like a holiday greeting illustration.

Rooms and interiors

Display it near seasonal glassware, a dining bench or a collection of dog prints. Cream, deep green and red furnishings will pick up the small color accents. Set it at a height where the dogs’ expressions and the delicate highlights around the rim stay easy to see.
