About the Artwork

Cinzano's red zebra in full flight

The Cinzano Vermouth Torino poster transforms a bottle presentation into a lively equestrian spectacle. A rider lifts the drink overhead as a red striped zebra bounds across the blue background. Leonetto Cappiello uses flying white fabric and a rising diagonal to make the whole scene feel buoyant and animated.

Artwork and design

Curves in the zebra's mane, tail and lifted legs repeat the movement of the rider's robe. Gold-toned Cinzano lettering fills the lower portion, with red product wording beneath. The dark central field gives the figure room to stand out, while green edging adds a quieter frame around the action.

About this design

Cappiello developed the Cinzano red-zebra motif in 1910, and the design appeared in several later editions and language versions. Its strength lies in the immediate connection between the raised bottle and the improbable animal. The image makes the advertisement recognizable through a character rather than a detailed setting.

Rooms and interiors

Use this vertical composition beside a bar cart, above a narrow console or within a dining room gallery. Navy, warm wood and cream offer useful supporting colors. Give the zebra some open wall around it so the upward gesture and large brand lettering retain their sense of movement.
