About the Artwork

A geometric figure pours beside a small café table

This Dubonnet Cassandre poster turns a seated figure, bottle and glass into an arrangement of angular planes. A black bowler hat sits above a warm-colored face with one sharply defined eye, while gray and black shapes describe the coat and arms against a pale yellow surrounding field.

Artwork and design

The bottle tilts diagonally above a small footed glass. A narrow table edge and upright support create a compact structure beside the figure’s long legs. Heavy black Dubonnet lettering anchors the lower section, followed by smaller red words that repeat the image’s restrained warm accents.

About this design

MoMA records Cassandre’s Dubonnet, Vin Tonique au Quinquina design from 1932. The composition uses geometric simplification to make the pouring gesture easy to follow. Solid silhouettes and areas of partial color give the familiar café scene an unusual graphic structure, with the brand name occupying a separate, clearly defined band.

Rooms and interiors

Place it near a bar cabinet, in an office with graphic prints or alongside other Art Deco compositions. Black furniture and muted yellow accessories echo its limited palette. A simple frame suits the strong geometry and preserves the open space around the figure, table and bottle.

Dubonnet – A. M. Cassandre Geometric Pouring Figure Poster

A bowler-hatted figure pours a drink beside a small table in A. M. Cassandre’s Dubonnet design. Angular gray clothing, a warm-colored face and a pale yellow surround create a spare, distinctly geometric advertising image.
