About the Artwork

A Glass of Asti Within a Vine Circle

Cream fabric and a lifted glass catch the light in this Gancia Asti Spumante poster by Aleardo Terzi. The figure sits inside a ring of vine stems and grape bunches, with a green bottle held at one side. Red script crosses the sweep of the skirt and ties the picture to Gancia.

Artwork and design

Fine lines give the white dress its pleats and give the hat a cluster of dark and pale flowers. The muted olive outside the ring makes the golden center feel softly lit. The raised arms occupy opposite edges of the circle, so the bottle and glass read as a pair. The large Gancia script spills over the vine circle and down the skirt. Its small swashes make a second kind of ornament alongside the more natural leaf shapes.

About this advertisement

Italy’s cultural heritage catalogue credits Terzi with the Gancia design and records the subject as a woman raising a glass among grapevines. The heading names Asti Spumante, a sparkling wine. Terzi’s vine frame keeps the agricultural image close to a scene of formal dress and celebration.

Rooms and interiors

Choose a spot near a dining table or a bar cabinet in a room with warm whites, soft green or aged brass. The circular frame brings a gentle curve to a wall with straight shelves and furniture. Allow space to see the fine folds and the grape clusters near the border.
